Low Light Plants

Not every home has a sunny south-facing window, and plenty of rooms — bathrooms without windows, north-facing bedrooms, interior hallways — get very little natural light at all. This category covers houseplants that tolerate low light, organized by room and by the light you actually have, so you can match a plant to a real spot instead of guessing. We are honest about the limits: no houseplant survives in total darkness long-term, and every guide here says so plainly. Where light is not enough on its own, the guides cover practical fixes — small grow lights on timers, rotating plants between a dim room and a brighter one, and choosing solid green varieties that hold up better in shade than heavily variegated ones. Each guide also notes watering adjustments, because plants in low light drink far more slowly.
